getting to know God

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the Bible refered to as God’s love letters to us. I still saw it as a rule book. I was saved and had a great many conversations with Jesus, but I was missing something.

When I opened my Bible to read, I was looking for “do this, don’t do that” kind of scriptures. And certainly, they are in there and full of wisdom. But they aren’t the whole of the work. Sure, I read the stories too. Mostly just so I could say I knew them and feel “well read”

Lately I’ve been reading them not to know the facts of the story, but to see God’s heart in the story. Oh what an amazing difference! I am nowhere near a good enough writer to adequately express the difference.

If you don’t do it already, ask God to reveal Himself to you the next time you are reading His words. If you find the words to describe the difference, share them!
