[WFMW] cleaning burned on pots & pans

wfmwheader_copy2.jpg

I’m sure most of you will find no use for this tip. I am quite positive that I am the only one who gets distracted and burns food on a regular basis.

Cheap pans or expensive, I still manage to get gunk burned on the bottom. (It’s quite a talent actually)

I have some pretty toxic sprays and chemicals that will get it off, but I’m just not that comfortable using them.

My nana (grandma for those of you not in my family) filled me in on a little secret. Apparently my great grandmother was also somewhat notorious for this trait and dealt with it this way:

Sprinkle some baking soda on the burned spots and let sit a couple of minutes. Pour vinegar on top and watch the magic happen. Those bubble will start lifting off the gunk. You may still need to use a little elbow grease, but not much and it’s fun to watch!

Make sure to visit the Shannon, the Queen of Works for Me Wednesday at Rocks in my dryer.

  1. Don’t worry you aren’t the only one. Time to head to the kitchen and watch the magic happen. Thanks for the tip!

  2. I may try that on my stovetop. I always have burned stuff on there. Thanks!!

  3. I love mixing Baking Soda and Vinegar.. and it’s a sure fire way to get my 5 year old to help me clean :)

    Great tip!

  4. My Grammy used that trick too, it’s fun to watch it bubble. Baking soday is so freakin handy.

  5. We do this too! I also have put baking soda into the pan and reheat it over the stove. Let it sit through dinner and it just pours all of the burnt gunk right out when you wash them.

Thanks so much for the tip!!

  6. Thanks, I’ll give it a try later today…great idea…as soon as I saw your title I thought I bet it has to do with vinegar..sure enough…
    Vinegar has so many uses.
    Thanks again
    Blessings

  7. You, my dear, are a life saver. A few weeks ago I meant to turn my stove to off. Instead, I turned it to high… and burnt the ever loving CRAP out of the remains of our dinner… to a very expensive pan. I am off to clean the pan! (hopefully this also works for old burn gunk)

  8. Yup, I can use this tip. Sometimes I just have too many things going on a once. Thanks!

  9. I was SO talented at getting crud burned on and stuck on to the bottom of pans. Then I got my hard anodized pans. I LOOOOOOVE them. Nothing ever gets stuck on, ever. Mine are Emerilware by Emeril Lagasse.

If anyone is interested in them, I don’t know how expensive they are, as they were a bonus gift my husband got through work. But they aren’t too cheap, I’m sure. Sam’s Club carries some, Member’s Mark brand, probably not too bad. Don’t know if all hard anodized cookware is as awesome as my Emerilware, but these are.

I like your tip, I’ll try it on my stovetop. We have one of those flat cooktops. I always wanted one, now I hate it. There is always something burned on it, and only the endless scrubbing of my super strong hubby can get it off.
